Lightweight solutions for mobility applications

If the mobility industry is to achieve its environmental and climate targets, fuel consumption and weight must be reduced. Lightweight construction is a big piece of the puzzle in achieving these goals. This means that fiber composites such as CFRP or GFRP are indispensable. With their extraordinary properties, fiber composites have become an integral part of the mobility industry.  It is precisely their potential in terms of strength, damping properties, corrosion resistance and the great potential for weight savings pave the way for achieving these goals in the mobility industry. In order to do justice to sustainability, AVANCO Composites has installed material savings through optimized production processes. We can also incorporate recyclable thermoplastics, natural fibers and bio-resins into our production processes at the customer’s request. The energy consumption for the production of fiber composites is significantly lower than that of aluminum. With our continuous optimization processes and further developments, we want to make our contribution to lightweight construction in the mobility industry.

Our products

Antriebswellen - Mobility

Drive shafts

Carbon fiber brings significant weight reduction into the drivetrain and reliably transfers the torque generated by the powertrain from the transmission to the rear wheels.

More details

The shafts used for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles often bridge substantial distances before they reach the differential gear boxes, this often necessitates the use of intermediate bearings. The high specific stiffness of CFRP enables our X-PROP shafts to become significantly longer without the need for intermediate bearings. The reduction of weight (and the eliminated costs of extra hardware) through the omitted bearings and joints, represent a major part of the added value that our carbon shafts offer. Similar conditions are also applicable to many applications for the commercial and special vehicle industry. We manufacture composite propeller shafts in automotive serial production, focusing on meeting the requirements of our OEM and Tier 1 customers, which include:  Minimum shaft weights, patented crash concepts, defined load capacity, reliably scalable force introduction processes, the use of cardan-shaft components from leading manufacturers, while maintaining the smooth integration of the CFRP shaft into the vehicle in terms of performance, installation space, acoustics (NVH) and costs.

Rotorbandagen - Mobility

Rotor- and stator sleeves

Our rotor bandages offer a range of benefits that significantly reduce the air gap between rotor and stator.

More details

They enable the compensation of centrifugal forces and thermal expansion, leading to improved energy efficiency and power output. Thanks to their outstanding mechanical and thermal properties, they are also suitable for the highest motor speeds. Dimensional accuracy in the circumferential direction is ensured by adjustable thermal expansion. Additionally, the low conductivity of the composite material minimizes magnetic losses compared to metallic solutions. Improved stator cooling is also achieved, while the bandage effectively seals the rotor from the coolant. Additionally, the use of thin-walled shells (~ 0.2mm) enables particularly efficient design.

Stabilisatoren - Mobiliy

Stabilizers

Our stabilizers offer flexible adjustment of torsional and bending stiffness through the selection of fibers and winding angle.

More details

This enables effective weight reduction in suspension systems. Due to the use of CFRP, our stabilizers also stand out for their excellent damping properties. Their outstanding fatigue behavior and resistance to corrosion guarantee long-lasting performance and reliability in various applications.

Profile - Mobility

Profiles

Our profiles come in a wide variety of shapes, including C-, Ω-, T-, and I-beams, to meet the demands of diverse applications.

More details

In addition, we offer cut-to-size parts and organ sheets for postforming, as well as tailor-made layer structures for specific applications. Our products are particularly well-suited for high-volume applications due to their fast manufacturing speed. They are thermoformable and weldable, further enhancing their versatility in application. Furthermore, they are characterized by high dimensional accuracy and low porosity (< 0.5%), enabling reliable and precise processing.

Advantages

Weight

The use of CFRP materials can achieve a weight reduction of up to 80% compared to steel.

Durability

CFRP materials have better fatigue strength than steel or aluminum solutions. The use of CFRP enables longer operating cycles under dynamic load conditions.

Mass inertia

Inertia can be significantly reduced through the use of CFRP materials. Can be used wherever accelerated, oscillating or clocked movements are required. This enables faster acceleration and shorter cycle times.

Stiffness

The CFRP material has a high specific stiffness (Φ = E/ρ). Compared to steel, this CFRP factor is up to 9 times higher

Oscillation

Due to their high rigidity and low weight, carbon fiber components have very high natural frequencies. Resonance ranges can be shifted up or down by winding angle or fiber adjustment.

Vibration

CFRP elements can be manufactured with twenty times more passive dampening than steel. The vibrations can even be avoided thanks to the high dampening ratios. CFRP components subject to vibration come to a standstill much faster.

Corrosion

CFRP products are extremely resistant to chemicals. In CFRP applications, rust and corrosion can be avoided and the associated loss of material strength and aesthetic properties can be counteracted.
