AVANCO Composites offers a broad variety of different systems to provide value adding solutions for the development of state of the art weapon systems. Lightweight structures are in this context beneficial to increase the operation time, the covered distance or the duration of an operation as well as ensuring the survivability. Fiber reinforced components support existing applications by their superior material properties related to low density, high modulus and strength as well as low fatigue levels and high thermal stability. Several applications are only possible by using special properties of fiber reinforced products like radar or radio translucency, adjustable thermal expansions in different directions or adjustable deflection properties.

By the variety of different manufacturing methods we are able to provide customized solutions in thermoset and thermoplastic matrix materials. With the vertical integration of the AVANCO Composites and the knowledge in machining and joining not only fiber reinforced but also metal materials we are capable to manufacture components, complete structures and systems to our customer’s needs. Decades in the development of aircraft, marine and vehicle components that were used and deployed under the roughest environments helps us to understand the requirements and provide the smartest solution in the fastest time for demanding defense applications. suppressor covers

With special purpose materials AVANCO Composites is capable to suit heat shield applications up to highest levels of thermal resistance.

Our dedicated sound suppressor heat cover system ensure the safety of soldiers, prevent serious burning injuries, secure the conductive heat transfer from the sound suppressor body to prevent overheating and optimize the visibility in the field of view by suppressing the mirage effect. Since the used material does not absorb moisture and reduces heat radiation in the visual axes, the signature can be drastically optimized in combat operations. The incredible low mass of the suppressor cover is very beneficial to reduce the weight at the very tip of your weapon system.

Pressure vessels

Being an experienced manufacturer of FRP components, AVANCO Composites develops CFRP pressure vessels made from thermoplastic UD-tapes, which enables technical potentials for customized solutions in unconventional design.

Current high-pressure storage systems are made of a thermoplastic liner, which ensures gas tightness. State of the art pressure vessels are wound with carbon-epoxy composite. Such tanks, defined as type 4 pressure vessels, are able to safely store gases at high pressure levels. Still, these tanks suffer from some limitations such as refuelling/emptying time, weight and volume, durability, robustness and recyclability. Thermoplastic pressure vessels are a promising alternative to face these challenges. The laser assisted thermoplastic tape winding process in particular offers great opportunities to increase storage efficiency, as well as reducing variation deviations in quality, due to high quality process control. The process also allows in-situ consolidation, superseding the need for curing in an oven. Discontinuous fiber reinforcement paths open up the possibilities to new designs.

Advantages

Weight

Utilizing CFRP materials can result in weight reductions of up to 80% compared to steel.

Durability

CFRP materials exhibit superior fatigue resistance compared to steel or aluminum solutions, enabling extended service life under dynamic loading conditions.

Mass inertia

Inertia can be significantly reduced through the use of CFRP materials. Can be used wherever accelerated, oscillating or clocked movements are required. This enables faster acceleration & deceleration and shorter cycle times.

Stiffness

CFRP is characterized by its high specific stiffness (Φ = E/ρ) compared to steel. The stiffness is up to 9 times higher.

Oscillation

Owing to their high stiffness and low weight, carbon fiber components exhibit exceptionally high natural frequencies. Resonance ranges can be shifted upwards or downwards by adjusting the winding angle or fiber orientation.

Vibration

CFRP elements can be manufactured with twenty times more passive dampening than steel. The vibrations can even be avoided thanks to the high dampening ratios. CFRP components subject to vibration come to a standstill much faster.

Corrosion

CFRP products are extremely resistant to chemicals. Rust and corrosion can be avoided and the resulting loss of material strength and aesthetic properties can be counteracted.
