The energy transition can be supported by the use of fiber-reinforced lightweight structures. Current high-pressure storage systems are made of a thermoplastic liner, wrapped with carbon-epoxy composite. Such tanks are able to store hydrogen at high-pressure levels, safely. Still, these tanks suffer from some limitations such as refueling\/emptying time, weight and volume, durability, robustness and recyclability. Thermoplastic pressure vessels (TPPV\u2019s) are a promising alternative to face these challenges. For example, electrical energy is converted into rotational energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"unfold btn\"><a href=\"#\">More details<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"moretext\">The rotational energy that can be stored depends on the square of the rotational speed. This means that high amounts of energy can be stored when the rotational speed of the flywheel accumulator is high. High rotational speeds lead to high centrifugal forces. Carbon fiber reinforced materials with their high specific strength are ideal for counteracting the high centrifugal forces. Our high-performance coupling tubes are used in the wind turbine rotor force transmission, and provide the electrical insulation for the generator in case of unplanned voltage surges, as they occur during events such as lightning strikes. The aim is to align the fibers to the load conditions and only use them where they are needed. These high strengths are relevant, for example, for CFRP flywheel accumulators and allow high rotational speeds and therefore high amounts of energy to be stored. This reduces production cycle times. Furthermore, the polymers of the liner and fiber composite matrix can be adapted to each other. This creates a strong bond between the fiber reinforcement and the liner. The liner, which is often a weak point in type 4 tank systems, is thus supported. Low environmental impact and a good carbon footprint make CFRP a genuine material of the future: constructively intelligent and sustainable. Due to the properties of thermoplastic polymers, thermoplastic composites offer very good recycling options compared to thermoset composites.
